What you'll learn
- Multiply and divide rational expressions by multiplying numerators and denominators (or multiplying by the reciprocal), simplifying by canceling common polynomial factors
- Add and subtract rational expressions with the same denominator by combining numerators
- Add and subtract rational expressions with different denominators by finding the least common denominator (LCD) and building equivalent fractions
- State and apply domain restrictions: identify x-values that make any denominator zero and must be excluded
- Explain the analogy between rational number arithmetic and rational expression arithmetic, using this to justify each operation
