Solve rational and radical equations
HSA.REI.A.2
Show moreShow less
What you'll learn
- Solve simple rational equations by multiplying by the LCD (least common denominator) and solving the resulting polynomial equation
- Solve simple radical equations by isolating the radical and raising both sides to an appropriate power
- Identify and discard extraneous solutions by checking all solutions in the original equation
- Explain WHY extraneous solutions arise for both rational equations (multiplying by zero) and radical equations (squaring can introduce new solutions)
- Recognize and state the domain restrictions for rational and radical equations (denominators ≠ 0, radicands ≥ 0 for even roots)
